For clients who are looking for a stylish and avant-garde engagement, wedding, or special occasion ring, we often get inquiries about raw, rough, or uncut diamonds.

These terms are used interchangeably in reference to a diamond stone that has not been shaped in any particular form by a cutter and has not undergone any processing or polishing.

The way a diamond stone is cut and polished determines its proportions, which in turn affects the way the stone will reflect light. If a stone is cut with more proportions, it has more brilliance. And polishing the surface lets more light fall on the stone, which is what makes it sparkle. In other words, polishing rough surfaces allows light to be refracted into and through the diamond.

With rough or uncut diamonds, however, the appeal isn’t the sparkle, but instead the pure and untouched natural beauty. Historically, rough, uncut diamonds were used for wedding rings because it was believed that the stones, in their natural form, had healing properties, and would attach a special energy to the wearer.

Because these stones are a rarity in nature, each is a one-of-a-kind. And since no two rough, uncut diamonds are alike, they create truly unique jewelry!

Not only do they come in unique shapes and sizes, but they also come in more colors than any other gemstone. Take a look at these beauties below!
